Information for Patients and Family - Campus Information and Services

Riverside Behavioral Health Center is located on a private 11.6 acre campus in the city of Hampton in Eastern Virginia. The surrounding area is known as Coliseum Central.

Interpreter Services

We can arrange for interpreters for a variety of foreign languages. If you need interpreter services, please ask your nurse.

For the Hearing Impaired

A telecommunications device is available to help hearing-impaired patients or patients who want to communicate with a hearing impaired relative or friend. We can also make arrangements to have a person who uses sign language help a hearing impaired or deaf patient.

Visitors

We encourage family members and friends to visit; however, patient care is our primary concern. Please refer to the unit handbook for specifics on visitation times.

General guidelines for visitors:

  • You must dress appropriately and must wear shirts and shoes.
  • You should maintain a quiet environment and avoid unnecessary noise.
  • You may not use tobacco products in patient rooms or anywhere in the hospital or hospital campus.
  • If you have a cold, sore throat or any contagious disease, you should not visit.

Tobacco-free campus

Riverside is committed to promoting health for our patients, visitors and employees. In support of this goal, our entire campus is tobacco free. Tobacco use is not allowed in any building, parking area or any of the surrounding grounds. Tobacco products are defined as cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, and all smokeless tobacco, such as chewing tobacco, snuff or e-cig products. Please let us know if you would like information on how to quit smoking. You can also ask your doctor about your options for nicotine replacement therapy.

Snacks, vending

Vending machines are located in the lobby and in the Sunrise Café.

Telephones

Calls may be made and received at designated times from the unit by dialing 9 and the number. Please refer to the unit handbook for specific times. Some numbers will require that you dial 9 and the area code, even if making a local call.

Personal items

We ask that you leave personal items of value at home. If you do bring a personal item, your treatment team may ask to secure it for you in the hospital safe. We will provide a written receipt for all items, which you must present when you withdraw your item(s). The hospital does not accept responsibility for personal items unless they are deposited in the safe.
